Introduction to the Book

Are you living as a disciple of Jesus? Take the challenge by considering your answers to these questions.

  1. Is your light shining bright for Jesus or is the light shining on you instead?

In Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus says, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under the peck-measure, but on the lampstand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

  2. Are you laying up for yourself treasures in heaven or are you storing up riches on earth?

In Matthew 6:19-20 Jesus says, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal."

  3. Are you producing fruit for the Kingdom of God or are you a seed that never grows?

In Matthew 7:20-21 Jesus says, "So then, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven."

  4. Is Jesus more important to you than your family, friends, possessions and even your own self or do you put others in front of your commitment to God?

In Luke 14:26-27,33 Jesus says, "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. So therefore, no one of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions."

  5. Are you willing to give up everything to follow Jesus or would you rather get more things as you follow Him?

Luke 5:27-28 says, "And after that He went out, and noticed a tax-gatherer named Levi, sitting in the tax office, and He said to him, 'Follow Me.' And he left everything behind, and rose and began to follow Him."
