Paul writes in 1st Timothy 4:7-10, "But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. It is a trust worthy statement deserving full acceptance. For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers."
A disciple cannot fix their hope on their; job, money, spouse, children, hobbies, vacations or anything else. They must fix their hope on God and Him alone. This can only be accomplished when a disciple lives their life with Direction.
Matthew 28:16-20 says, "The eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'"
If a disciple is going to teach others to observe all that Jesus commanded, they must first live their life that way. That requires a life where Jesus is first and foremost, then they will be able to follow His direction for their life, to teach others to follow Jesus. Every Christian should be mentoring another Christian, teaching them to observe all that He commanded. This can only be accomplished when a disciple lives their life with Dependence.
Psalm 62:8 says, "Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us." A disciple must not just depend, they must totally depend, in fact they must radically depend on Jesus with a no matter what attitude. In order to do this, they must hunger and thirst for more of God; for God to reveal more of His glory to them. A disciple must get rid of a "me" centered life and live a God centered life by giving up control of their life and letting Jesus take the wheel. Letting Jesus to take the wheel is more than just a catchy phrase-it is the only way to fully live and enjoy the Christian life. Every Christian should be discipled to live letting Jesus take the wheel and then disciple another to do the same!
